NM Mission of Mercy

Meet Your Co-Chairs

Dr. Jennifer Thompson

Dr. Jennifer Thompson was born and raised in Farmington. After graduating from Duke University with a degree in biomedical engineering in 2004 and from UNC School of Dentistry in 2008, she returned to NM to join her mother’s general practice. She has held multiple leadership positions at the local and state level and is a past President of the New Mexico Dental Association, a past President of the Northwest District Dental Society, and a current delegate to the ADA. Believing strongly in serving her community, she is on the NMDA Foundation Board of Directors, participates in Donated Dental Services, and has volunteered at every NM MOM since 2013.

“I firmly believe in helping my community and serving others,” says Dr. Thompson.  “I look forward to every MOM because I get to see familiar faces of volunteers and serve alongside old friends. It warms my soul being able to give back and help create new smiles in our community. The blood, sweat and tears that we will all devote to making MOM a success is worth it in every way imaginable. We are so excited! “.

Dr. James Cole

Dr. James Cole is originally from Texas. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry, in 1990. He was an officer in the Indian Health Service from 1990-94, appointed to the New Mexico Board of Dental Health Care for three years, and a trustee to the New Mexico Dental Association. He's owned a private practice in the four corners region since 1994.  Dr. Cole is additionally a member of the ADA, the NMDA, and the Northwestern District Dental Society.  From 2012 to 2019 he served as president of the New Mexico Dental Association Foundation Board.

Because he feels it's so important to give back through service, Dr. Cole has been on nine dental mission trips to Peruvian villages along the Amazon, four dental mission trips to Mexico, and has volunteered for Give Kids a Smile and five NM Mission of Mercy events across the state.

“I love it for so many reasons” says Dr. Cole. “New Mexico Mission of Mercy (NM MOM) is a great vehicle to impact the lives of our neighbors and acquaintances in such a positive way.  Many of the people we see just need to know that we as Dentists care about them. For me, it’s a privilege to serve."
